People say population increase is out of control, so just imagine how much water is being used across the globe.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1263\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1263\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/biya-river.jpg\" alt=\"Biya River\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1263\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Biya River<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\"><\/h1>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Iran<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reasons for water crisis in Iran include spiralling population, over exploitation of groundwater and general waste of water.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On average, approximately 66 gallons of water are used per day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lake Urmia is now a mere 5% of what it was 20 years ago<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the World Resources Institute report 2013, Iran is the 24th most \u2018water-stressed\u2019 country in the world<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Egypt<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The water crisis in Egypt is caused by poor water management and climate change, in a country where water was already scarce.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Population in water poverty means less than 1000 cubic meters per capita share of water<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s predicted that water supply could run dry by 2025<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Ethiopia<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The water crisis in Ethiopia is very severe.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Almost half the population doesn\u2019t have access to safe drinking water<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Three in every four people don\u2019t have access to proper sanitation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This causes more than 33,000 children to die from diarrhoea every year<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">South Africa<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The water crisis is the primary cause of violent disputes and protests that have fatal consequences for many in South Africa.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country may face serious water shortages by 2020<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Water requirements are likely to double in next thirty years<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There is a lot of pressure on freshwater supply due to the increasing population and growing economy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Australia<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In Western Australia, there\u2019s only one-sixth of the water in the reservoirs from rain compared with 15 years ago. This just shows how bad the water crisis is and how quickly it is growing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Turning to desalination to serve state capital Perth, which is very expensive<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Starting to treat wastewater and inject it into aquifers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">WA residents becoming more clued up about not wasting water<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Niger<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The water crisis in Niger is now being addressed as violence has diminished.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Over 15 million people do not have access to proper sanitation, around 8.2 million people do not have good access to clean water<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Causes 12,000 children to die from illnesses such as typhoid and diarrhoea each year<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Food and water poverty heightened by many years of conflict and severe drought<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Turkmenistan<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To combat water crisis, an artificial lake is being built at Garashor. This will collect and purify drainage water and sewage for re-use.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Turkmenistan is situated in a water scarce part of the world<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country is likely to see serious water shortage by 2020<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">More than half country is desert<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Pakistan<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Pakistan is one of the most \u2018water-stressed\u2019 countries in the world.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country has a rapidly increasing population, which does not help the situation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Often not enough water made available to cater for water requirement of main crops<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Only enough emergency supplies on reserve for 30 days. The recommended number of days for country with similar climate is 1,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">Morocco<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Water quality monitoring has shown that water quality is becoming progressively worse, because of untreated waste contamination.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There are limited renewable water resources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dams are becoming blocked or filled with silt.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">80% of water consumption is agriculture<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Estimated that in urban areas 35% of water is lost due to poor pipe work<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">India<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The water crisis has been building for years in India, and it\u2019s likely to come to a head very soon.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Severe depletion of groundwater<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">World Bank estimates that groundwater supplies will reach critical condition within twenty years<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2018Water-stressed\u2019 nation \u2013 population increase from 1.03 billion in 2001 to 1.21 billion in 2011<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">China<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At the beginning of the 20th century there were 50,000 rivers in China, more than half have since disappeared.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ecological challenges are caused by economic growth<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">110 cities in China facing serious water scarcity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you doing anything to help prevent the water crises?
