You certainly will have heard of at least a couple of them before. They\u2019re simply some of the most incredible locations on the planet. They have inspired many to explore and appreciate the nature we are spoilt with. They\u2019re in no particular order, just 10 of our favourites.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">1 &#8211; Mississippi River<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/mississippi-river.jpg\" alt=\"Mississippi River\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mississippi River<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Mississippi River is known globally not only as one of the largest, but most picturesque rivers in the world, flowing roughly 2,320 miles from Lake Itasca in the United States to the Gulf of Mexico. In actual fact, the Mississippi River runs through 10 U.S. states! As mentioned previously, rivers hold excellent historic value, which is exactly the case with the Mississippi River. It\u2019s simply one of the most beautiful rivers in the world, and is referred to as the \u201criver that ran away from paradise\u201d. It is also referred to as \u201cThe River of Five Colours\u201d and \u201cThe Liquid Rainbow\u201d, as it features a mixture of vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, greens and blues.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">3\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Jordan<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/yarden.jpg\" alt=\"Yarden\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yarden<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 251 kilometres long Jordan River is well known as the Biblical epicenter of the Judeo-Christian world. It\u2019s located in West Asia, flowing to the Dead Sea. According to the Holy Bible, the Jordan River is where John baptised Jesus Christ. It is also believed to be where numerous other miracles occurred, such as the crossing from Egypt to Canaan.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">4\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Rio Negro<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Rio_Negro_sunset.jpg\" alt=\"Rio Negro Sunset\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rio Negro Sunset<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another river in South America is the Rio Negro. At just over 430 miles, the Rio Negro is the larges blackwater river in the world. The colour is caused by the release of tannins from decaying vegetation.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">5\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Lena River<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Lena_River_near_Yakutsk_synchroswimr.jpg\" alt=\"Lena River Sunset\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lena River<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Lena River is located in Russia. It\u2019s the 3rd largest river in Asia, and 10th in the world, stretching across a large 2,734 miles. It flows through Eastern Siberia into the Laptev Sea.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">6 &#8211; Zambezi<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Zambezi_River_at_junction_of_Namibia_Zambia_Zimbabwe__Botswana.jpg\" alt=\"Lena River Sunset\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zambezi River<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You\u2019re truly spoilt for a view at the Zambezi River, in Zambia. It flows through various places, only to end in the Indian Ocean. If you\u2019re ever there, you\u2019ll have a perfect opportunity to snap up a picture of the picturesque Victoria Falls, which is located on the Zambezi River. Hindus worship the Ganges River as they believe it\u2019s the earthly manifestation of the Goddess Ganga. They believe the river has the ability to cleanse them of their sins.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">8 &#8211; Neretva<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Neretva.jpg\" alt=\"Neretva\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aube sur le Gange<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Neretva is a stunning karst river. A karst river is one which is surrounded by karst (limestone) topography. This is rock dissolution which creates caves, sinkholes, streams and springs. The Neretva runs through Bosnia, Herzegovina and Croatia.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">9 &#8211; Danube River<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Danube_near_Iron_Gate_2006_3.jpg\" alt=\"Danube\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Danube<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Danube is the second longest river in Europe, stretching 1,770 miles. It runs through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. It offers many fantastic views, especially at night when the surrounding areas are lit up.<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\">10 &#8211; Amazon<\/h1>\n<figure id=\"5000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-5000\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aquaread.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/amazon.jpg\" alt=\"Amazon\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-5000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amazon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, let\u2019s not forget the Amazon in South America, which begins in Brazil and travels through Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela. This is the largest, widest, longest and deepest river of them all. It also boasts the largest discharge, which is between 9 million and 32 million gallons per second. Because of this, it is also referred to as the \u201cOcean River\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We think these rivers are fascinating, and simply can\u2019t get enough of them! What do you think?
